This project involved the conversion of a two-storey semi-detached house within a conservation area from two self-contained maisonettes back into a single-family home. The proposal included reinstating the original front entrance, replacing the front bay window, adding a contemporary rear extension, and remodelling the internal layout to create generous open-plan living spaces, a new kitchen and dining area, a utility room, and additional bathroom accommodation.

The principal planning challenge was overcoming policy that resists the net loss of residential units. Our approach demonstrated that, while the proposal reduced the number of dwellings, it responded to wider planning objectives by providing a high-quality family home in an area with strong demand for larger housing. The scheme significantly improves the quality of accommodation without altering the overall intensity of residential use.

Supported by thorough planning research, a robust Design and Access Statement, and carefully coordinated drawings, the proposal successfully secured planning permission for this complex, policy-sensitive project.
