San Hao in Chinatown

Updated: Jul 20
This project involved the refurbishment and redesign of a restaurant shopfront within a listed building in the heart of London’s Chinatown conservation area. The challenge was to create a contemporary and distinctive identity while meeting the strict planning and heritage requirements of Westminster City Council and the landlord.
Acting on behalf of the tenant, we coordinated with Shaftesbury Capital, CBRE, and the local authority throughout the project. Our services included consultant team coordination, design development, statutory approvals, tender documentation, contract administration, and construction oversight through to completion. We secured Planning Permission, Advertisement Consent, and Building Regulations approval, while managing Health & Safety and CDM compliance requirements. During construction, we carried out site inspections, monitored progress, and administered the contract to ensure successful project delivery.
The completed three-storey restaurant features a contemporary interior inspired by traditional Chinese tea houses, creating a refined dining environment that has become a popular destination within Chinatown.
